Generative artificial intelligence and photojournalism – Season 2 What progress has been made and what are the prospects for photographers and copyright? At the 2023 edition of Visa pour l’Image – Perpignan, the SAIF (Société des auteurs des arts visuels et de l’image fixe) and LaScam (Société civile des auteurs multimédia) organised a round table on the upheavals caused by the emergence of generative artificial intelligence, and its implications for photographers and freedom of information. Two years on, this new event will review recent developments and prospects for the future. What difference will the AI Act, the new European regulation on artificial intelligence, adopted in June 2024, make? What progress has been made in terms of press photography and copyright protection? What impact will the development of AI have on the future of photojournalism? The round table will look at the current legal situation in France and Europe, as well as the progress that has been made in terms of remuneration and copyright protection. The participants will analyze current discussions on the transparency of training data and codes of good practice, and they will look at the ethical and professional issues that AI continues to raise for photojournalism.
