In 2004, I did two feature reports, one in Siberia for Geo magazine Germany, and the other in Central America for Geo France. These were two long voyages across two very different continents.

I adopted the same approach everywhere I went, mapping and x-raying the places. In the course of my travels I focused on a variety of stories – geographic, economic, political, cultural and human. I then used all these angles to make a portrait of these regions, depicted in words and pictures. While these two worlds are very different, in climate, lifestyle and light, I tried to use the same photographic approach, with color playing a key role, while also respecting the truth and expressing the feelings I had experienced in the course of the trips. Being suddenly plunged into Siberia, going from the Ural to the Pacific, or being plunged into Central America, going from Mexico to the Colombian border, will always remain with me as an astounding experience.
