Dimitar Dilkoff shows the humor and hope of the people of eastern Europe. When asked to comment on his stories or to provide the context for certain photos, Dimitar has very few words to add. Everything has already been said, in the lighting, the atmosphere, and the expressions he has captured. Each of his photographs raises a question. Why is the priest looking back at the flowers in the middle of a deserted church? What are the orthodox priest and the rabbi doing together in the synagogue in Sofia? And what is the strange juxtaposition of lounge furniture and vegetables?

He likes to bring details together and endeavors to transcribe atmospheres. Early one morning, Dimitar came across the couple who had lost everything in the flooding of the Danube and who could not contain their grief. He went off to discover the women of the mountain village of Ribnovo; they were adorned with garlands and glitter for their wedding ceremonies, which are held in winter only. And the picture of a Turkish policemen outside the Blue Mosque, captured in a reflection in a shop window, then becomes an enigmatic image when presented to us.
