Cambodia is one of the most deeply wounded places on earth. A country that is still trying to recover from the madness of the Pol Pot regime (which caused the death of two million people out of a population of eight) and twenty years of civil war - not forgetting the massive U.S. bombings during the Vietnam war.
A place where, today, between six and ten million landmines are still buried in the ground and that is facing yet another deadly threat: the worst HIV / AIDS epidemic in Asia.

Cambodia is also a land of great beauty, whose people, despite all the suffering, are strong and dignified and with a gentleness that is even difficult to comprehend.... It is in the suspension created by these two elements, the scale of the tragedy and the gentle dignity of the Khmer people, that I have approached Cambodia. With silence. Hopefully with meaning.
