«Artificial Intelligence and photojournalism: what is at stake for photographers and for freedom of information?

La Saif and LaScam are holding a panel discussion to review the extremely topical and critical issue for photojournalism in 2023, i.e. artificial intelligence. The panel will include prominent politicians, lawyers, researchers and photographers to look at the questions of legal standards that apply, and current European Union negotiations for changing and developing the standards, and to address issues of concern for photographers and also for the media. What dangers are threatening professional photojournalists and their payment system of authors’ rights? What is the situation in relation to professional ethics applying to the press, to freedom of information, and the response to combat fake news?

The panel discussion will see what prospects there are for the questions of authors’ rights and the right to information as viewed in relation to artificial intelligence and photojournalism.

Kathleen Grosset, President of the French Council for professional ethics and mediation in journalism (CDJM); Nicolas Mazars, Chief Legal Officer, laScam; Violette Spillebout, Member of Parliament, France (Nord, 9th electoral district), Member of the Committee on cultural affairs and education; Carola Streul, Secretary General, European Visual Artists (EVA).
