Professional week

The first goal of the festival is to reinforce the importance and value of press photography.

To create a platform so you can see the in-depth reports and stories which have not been published, to realize just how active the profession is, despite the impact of restructuring and changes amongst the groups, there is still Perpignan.

While technological developments have brought digital technology to the fore, replacing conventional silver-based photography, with news traveling ever more freely via sophisticated technologies and a great deal now available to the general public, there will always be a great need for the work done by qualified people.

Each year, new, ever more enthusiastic, photographers come on the scene.

In Perpignan, thousands of professional photojournalists are offered an opportunity to meet with their peers, talk about their work or their profession (during the symposium), and talk sales with photo agencies and get hands on experience with new technologies.

Today The International Press Center, located at the Palais des Congrès, receives during the professional week : 3000 accredited professionals, 280 press agencies, representing 50 countries. More than 30 press agencies and associations of photographers, arriving from all other the world, will have a desk. What's more major manufacturers will be exhibiting also.

This place is now up to receive professionals: ADSL phone line and fittings. This means hard work and lots of people running around after one another.

But it leaves room for chatting and having a drink with long time friends in the Palais des Congrès.

The traditional press book enables to assess the sociologic impact of the event, and to analyze the criticism of the different press supports, whether local, national or international.
