MEET THE PHOTOGRAPHER: DOMINIC NAHR
PALAIS DES CONGRÈS TUESDAY 2 SEPTEMBER 2009
Dominic Nahr went to Congo for the first time in October 2008.
"I wanted to be somewhere where history was unfolding...so I booked a flight to Congo."
"I've worked in different conflict situations... but the night before I left I was scared.
You fear what you don't know...but it disappeared when I got to Kingali...I fell in love right away."
"I try to go to places without knowing too much about them...without judging, without having a pre-conceived idea about what I want to get out of it."
"I try to let my senses take over...read the situation and take the pictures based on what I read."
"The problem is things change hourly...things move quickly. To explain this country, you need to dig deeply into the layers...spend more time to get below the surface...investigate all the influences."
"I was trying to document what I saw. It was instinctual...and I hope I can keep taking pictures that way...when I'm shooting, I try to go with my gut instinct."
