Haiti & Bangkok – horror & revolt

City of Perpignan Young Reporter's Award - 2010

Ha iti and Bangkok are two dramas that may be seen as symbols. There is the picture of a Haitian wielding a hammer to tackle a mountain of rubble; then the photo of a Thai man armed with a slingshot either to fight against violence perpetrated by government or to stand up to military tanks. Are both losing battles? No, there is the strength that comes at that point in time where small people in the world believe, with the fury of despair, that they just might win. Corentin Fohlen has been working as a freelance photographer for the past six years, sharing in the struggles of men and women who realize how crucial it is to have witnesses and records. Between Port-au-Prince and Bangkok, he has powerful stories to tell of these ordinary everyday fighters.
