Eloi, a “Bubble Baby”
Eloi suffers from a rare genetic disease and is forced to live locked away behind a sterile tent, deprived of physical contact with his mother. Every year in France, 25 babies like Eloi undergo a bone marrow transplant and need to be protected from all possible sources of contamination. Eloi suffers from ectodermal dysplasia with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), genetic disorders passed on by the mother and affecting the immune system. Here is the photo album, starting from the bubble and going through to his return home, presenting a record of the battle waged which, for 70% of cases, is successful.
