Change in China
One of the major changes in China over the last twenty years has been rampant urbanization, destroying traditional city centers and remote country areas, turning rural communities into urban migrants exploited by the new middle classes, and all as part of the State/Party program to modernize living conditions. Boris Svartzman did a first report on the system of forced rehousing in China, then, from 2006 to 2008, explored the suburbs, cities and rural areas of China, finding visual records of the human dimension of this massive upheaval.
