Catalogue
To mark the 20th anniversary of the international festival of photojournalism Visa pour l'Image - Perpignan, a special catalogue has been produced in association with Snoeck Publishers, covering the twenty years of the festival and featuring the photographers exhibited in 2008.
Since 1989, Visa pour l'Image has shown just how important it is to have views presented by photojournalists as part of complete, accurate news reporting.
The photos in this catalogue are records of news stories and/or archive documents. They tell of wars; they save people and stories from oblivion; they tell tales of nature and the environment, of different people, different religions and different social issues, and they tell of the scourges in the world today.
These twenty years of Visa pour l'Image in Perpignan offer an outstanding view of history in the making.
Catalogue available during the Festival at the Palais des Congrès and Couvent des Minimes (August 30, 2008 – September 14, 2008). Price: 25€

Symposium Proceedings
The symposium was launched seven years ago by Jean Lelièvre who had the idea of organizing a panel discussion/forum with guest speakers, including photojournalists, philosophers, sociologists, academics, researchers, and historians, both French and international – a wide range of panelists with an interest in current affairs and pictures, but approaching news and these questions from very different angles.
The discussion has regularly produced statements not generally heard amongst professional photographers, but that’s the purpose of the exercise!
“Have we reached crisis point in matters of communication, a crisis with the symbols we produce, and in a broader sense, in conveying and grasping meaning in today’s increasingly commoditized world?” This question captures the essence of the debate over the past seven years.
The proceedings of the symposium (in seven booklets) contain the full text of the debates since 2002 and are on sale during the Festival, at the Palais des Congrès and Couvent des Minimes, from August 30 to September 14, 2008, (10 euros per volume).
Symposium proceedings available in French only.
